PPF vs Ceramic Coating in Dubai: Which Do You Need?

5 min read · Updated

The short answer

Paint protection film (PPF) is a physical, clear film that takes stone chips, sand and light scratches so your paint doesn't. Ceramic coating is a hard, glossy layer bonded to the paint that keeps it shiny and makes washing easier. It does not stop stone chips.

If your main worry is chips from highway driving, you need PPF. If you want gloss and easy cleaning on a car that is mostly driven in the city, ceramic coating may be enough. Many owners do both.

What PPF does well

PPF is a clear urethane film applied panel by panel.

  • Absorbs stone chips on the bonnet, bumper and mirrors
  • Guards against wind-blown sand pitting
  • Has a self-healing top layer: light swirl marks fade with heat
  • Can be removed later, leaving the factory paint underneath

What ceramic coating does well

Ceramic coating is a liquid applied to prepared paint, which cures into a thin, hard layer.

  • Deep gloss that lasts far longer than wax
  • Water and dirt bead off, so washing is quicker
  • Helps protect against UV and bird droppings
  • Works on paint, PPF, wheels and glass

Why UAE conditions matter

Long highway drives between emirates, construction traffic and sand make stone chips one of the most common kinds of paint damage on UAE roads. A coating cannot absorb an impact; a film can. At the same time, strong sun and dust make an easy-to-clean, glossy surface valuable every week.

The combination most owners choose

A common setup is PPF on the front of the car (bonnet, bumper, fenders and mirrors), or the full body, with ceramic coating over the film and the rest of the paint. You get impact protection where the car is hit most, and gloss and easy cleaning everywhere.

Our PPF is STEK film with a 12-year warranty, installed by our own certified team.
